Each year for Thanksgiving, Todd's family likes to do an out-of-the-ordinary dinner. This tradition's been going on for years, and each year there's always a new dish with an interesting twist. Last year, for example, Todd's mom had hit a deer on election night and not wanting to waste it, her son-in-law came out to the scene of the accident, field-dressed it (it's legal in their state), and we had it for Thanksgiving.

What's For Dinner? Sausage and Mushroom Pizza

Sausage and Mushroom Pizza

I love pizza night. It always falls after a long day, when we have lots of little things in the fridge that need finishing. I don't mean leftovers, I mean scraps - little bits of onion, tomatoes, cheese - stuff too big to just throw away, but not big enough to use on its own. That's when we pull out the pizza dough.

Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato Sandwiches

What's so special about a BLT, you ask? And why does it warrant a post of its own?
Because with the last piece of pork belly, Todd and I made bacon. Actually, Todd did all of the hard work of curing and seasoning it. I just smoked it. And let me tell you...it was the best damn bacon we'd had in a very long time.

Fresh Tomato Sauce Sicilian

Fresh Tomato Sauce Sicilian

Last year when we had plenty of tomatoes, Todd made and froze homemade tomato sauce - and it turned out to be very handy whenever we wanted a quick pasta meal (especially when we had homemade Italian sausage!). I had a little extra time on Saturday, so I pulled down the Frugal Gourmet's recipe for a basic tomato sauce and made 5 quarts and froze it.
